The Educational Tool Kit on Beverage Alcohol Consumption is intended to provide evidence-based resources for health care professionals to help ensure that those patients who choose to consume beverage alcohol do so moderately and responsibly. It is a compendium of screening and brief intervention tools, patient handouts, scientific reprints, and referral information for health care professionals to assist them in identifying and reducing alcohol abuse and answering patient questions.

Partners on Educational Tool Kit on Beverage Alcohol Consumption with Standard Drinks: A Teaching Tool include the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the American Medical Women’s Association, the National Medical Association, the Nutrition Educators of Health Professionals, a Dietetic Practice Group of the American Dietetic Association, the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, and the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States. The Educational Tool Kit program is also recognized as a founding partner on the United States Department of Agriculture’s Partnering with MyPyramid: Corporate Challenge.

The Educational Tool Kit on Beverage Alcohol Consumption makes available published materials for adults that provide information on moderate and responsible beverage alcohol consumption as described in the alcohol guideline from the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (2005). There also are materials that provide information on beverage alcohol consumption and pregnancy, beverage alcohol consumption and medication interactions, and beverage alcohol consumption and aging. Finally, there are links for additional information from government and health agencies.

Standard Drinks: A Teaching Tool is a three dimensional model that contains information and graphics on standard drinks, the alcohol guideline from the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (2005) and calories. There also are several excerpts from government documents, third party organizations, and published scientific articles that reinforce standard drinks as defined in the alcohol guideline of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (2005).
